Pelicans @ Trail Blazers
Moda Center, Portland, OR
New Orleans Pelicans What To Watch:
Dejounte Murray was acquired by the New Orleans Pelicans over the offseason in an attempt to enhance their game-ending performance.
Murray had a fractured hand in the season opener, which kept him out of action for four to six weeks, but they have already improved in closing.
After falling down nine points at the start of the fourth quarter on Friday in Portland, the Pelicans, who finished 0-24 in games where they trailed at the end of the third quarter the previous season, came back to overcome the Trail Blazers 105-103. A rematch between the clubs is scheduled on Sunday afternoon in Portland.
Herbert Jones and Zion Williamson both blocked Anfernee Simons' layup attempt on the last possession, but Brandon Ingram's game-winning shot with 4.9 seconds remaining kept the lead intact.
Murray equaled Steph Curry for the most in the NBA last season with three game-winning field goals in the last five seconds of the fourth quarter/overtime.
Jordan Hawkins, the Pelicans' second-year guard, led the team with 24 points while he was out, including 15 in the last quarter and 22 in the second half.
Following Williamson's absence from the first game due to sickness, Hawkins' accurate shooting helped New Orleans overcome a weak offensive performance. He contributed 16 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists while only making 4 of 15 attempts.
Portland Trail Blazers What To Watch:
The Blazers performed far better than they did in their 140-104 defeat to visiting Golden State on Wednesday, despite letting a game in which they led by as many as 16 points slip away.
Jerami Grant shot a career-high eight 3-pointers and led the Blazers with 34 points, including the first 10 of his team.
