Timberwolves @ Spurs
Frost Bank Center, San Antonio, TX
Minnesota Timberwolves What To Watch:
When the Minnesota Timberwolves travel to San Antonio on Saturday to play Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs, defense will be the main priority.
After defeating the Denver Nuggets 119-116 at home on Friday, the Timberwolves went overnight to the Alamo City for the second game in a home-road back-to-back. After blowing a double-digit lead in the period, Minnesota rallied for the victory with the game's final 10 points.
This victory was Minnesota's second in its last three games and gave them a winning homestand.
Rudy Gobert's two free throws with ten seconds left ended the rally, which was led by 29 points by Anthony Edwards. Naz Reid scored 16 points, Gobert scored 17 points and pulled down 14 rebounds, while Julius Randle contributed 23 points.
The updated appearance As they adjust to Randle and Edwards sharing top-dog status, the Timberwolves have had ups and downs in their first five games. The Timberwolves' guards finishing too near to the basket causes an opponent's big man to leak out for a layup on the other end, which is one of Minnesota's transition defense problems.
Karl-Anthony Towns, who passed away last season, was able to return in time to prevent harm from the leak outs by typically positioning himself close to the top of the key.
After Minnesota's first five games, Edwards has made 29 of 67 3-point shots, more than any other player in the league. On Friday, he was 7 for 14 from beyond the arc.
San Antonio Spurs What To Watch:
Following their resounding 106-88 victory over Utah on Thursday, the San Antonio Spurs make their homecoming. Wembanyama finished with 25 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 steals, and 5 blocks.
Having produced at least five in each category in a game for the second time in his brief career, Wembanyama joined Hakeem Olajuwon (six times) and Andrei Kirilenko (three times) as the only players to do so.
For San Antonio, Chris Paul contributed 19 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds. Keldon Johnson scored 13 points, Jeremy Sochan scored 11, and Sandro Mamukelashvili scored 10. Despite having a six-point deficit at the half, San Antonio easily defeated the Jazz after outscoring them 30–14 in the third quarter.
Both Spurs coach Gregg Popovich and Wembanyama stated that the team's defense was the true key, even with the third-quarter scoring surge.
This Saturday's game is the lone one in San Antonio and the first of three meetings between the teams this season.
