Minnesota Timberwolves What To Watch:

On Tuesday, October 22, the LA Lakers will host the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Crypto.com Arena in an attempt to snap their eight-year opening night losing record. They haven't won a season tipoff fight since they defeated the Houston Rockets in their season opener in 2016.

The two teams have had different summers. In a huge transaction, the Timberwolves acquired Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo from the New York Knicks in exchange for Karl-Anthony Towns. Putting moolah issues aside, Minnesota appears to benefit from the move as it increases offensive potency and depth in playmaking.

Anthony Edwards may find the ideal backcourt mate in a reliable DiVincenzo. The forward's performance after returning to action after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury the previous season will play a significant role in Randle's addition. Before suffering a debilitating injury, the three-time NBA All-Star scored 24.0 points per game in 46 games with the Knicks.

Edwards is expected to meet high standards by the Timberwolves. Although he has risen quickly, the team and the guard have been in the running for the playoffs despite their impeccable play. The core of their defense, which finished second to the Boston Celtics in first place, will once again be Rudy Gobert, Naz Reid, and Jaden McDaniels. Reid and Randle also step in to cover Towns' absence.

Los Angeles Lakers What To Watch:

The Lakers' offseason was quiet. They lost all of their trade targets to their West Conference rivals, thus LeBron James' willingness to accept a pay cut didn't materialize into any significant moves. DeMar DeRozan found a new home in Sacramento, Klay Thompson signed with the Dallas Mavericks, and Jonas Valenciunas, a former big man for the New Orleans Pelicans, signed with the Washington Wizards.

Nevertheless, under JJ Redick, the Lakers have changed their appearance. The former shooter joins the team with fresh ideas that not only guarantee the Lakers a longer postseason run but also set the stage for their future after James. The Purple and Gold will rely on their roster stability from the previous two seasons as well as a seasoned veteran and dynamic F/C in Anthony Davis.

The Timberwolves defeated the Lakers 3-1 in their four meetings with them last season. The Lakers have a 129-game regular-season record of 85-44 versus their opponents.

In his 22nd season in the NBA, LeBron James enters the court. At some time this season, he will be sharing the floor with his son Bronny James, which will be another historic event in his legendary career. In an attempt to capture his fifth championship and his second with the Lakers, the four-time NBA champion will now play under new head coach JJ Redick, defying the passing of time.

Subsequently, there was some drama surrounding Redick's hiring this summer as a first-time head coach. The Lakers created waves by bringing in UConn stalwart coach Dan Hurley after being predicted to be the front-runner for the position. They then went on to support their initial decision, who was chosen for his keen knowledge.
