Minnesota Timberwolves vs Chicago Bulls What To Watch:
The Minnesota Timberwolves and the host Chicago Bulls will square off against two of the NBA's top five teams in terms of average 3-point attempts per game on Thursday night.
Minnesota is also accustomed to a different type of depth.
In fact, during Monday's 114-93 victory over the Charlotte Hornets at home, the top eight players in the Minnesota rotation played anywhere from 21 to 30 minutes.
Even though the starting five's volatility had a role in that, the Timberwolves are becoming accustomed to this reality.
Rob Dillingham and Terrence Shannon Jr., first-round draft picks, made their home debuts in the fourth quarter after the Timberwolves started to build enough distance with a 13-2 run early in the second quarter.
Naz Reid led Minnesota with 25 points and 9 rebounds, coming close to a double-double.
The Timberwolves fired 18-for-38 from long range after Reid's 5-for-7 effort from beyond the arc served as the catalyst. Anthony Edwards scored 21 points by making four triples.
After winning three of their first five games of the season, Chicago has now dropped three in a row.
The defending Western Conference champion Dallas Mavericks defeated the Bulls 119-99 on the road on Wednesday.
The Timberwolves might provide a remedy. In their last five meetings with Minnesota, Chicago has averaged 125.4 points and won seven of their last ten games. The Bulls have won five straight games at United Center and are on a three-game winning streak overall going into Thursday's matchup with Minnesota.
Zach LaVine, the Bulls' top scorer, missed his second straight game due to a right adductor strain versus Dallas.
The Mavericks scored 28 points thanks to 23 turnovers from Chicago.
Nikola Vucevic recorded his seventh double-double in eight games with 14 points and 10 rebounds. In contrast, rookie Matas Buzelis recorded career-highs of nine rebounds and 13 points.
Late in the fourth quarter, the Bulls were down by as much as thirty points.
The Bulls are "not where we need to be (defensively) to win games" this week, according to Vucevic, as the club battles to "get stops consistently."
Lonzo Ball, the reserve guard, is still out due to a sprained right wrist. Ball was scheduled to be reassessed by Chicago on Thursday, but coach Billy Donovan stated that there is no definite schedule for his return because Ball is still in a splint. The Bulls "dodged a bullet" with the injury, according to Donovan.
