Memphis Grizzlies What To Watch:

On Wednesday in Salt Lake City, the Memphis Grizzlies and the host Utah Jazz will begin the 2024–25 NBA season with some familiar problems.

The Jazz's main focus for the upcoming season will be a youth movement, and the Grizzlies are once again dealing with injuries.

The squad will begin this season without Jaren Jackson Jr., a crucial player, due to a hamstring ailment, but Memphis welcomes back Ja Morant, the outstanding point guard who was hindered by a 25-game ban and a season-ending shoulder injury last year.

Last season, injuries caused Memphis players to miss an NBA-high 578 games overall. In addition to Jackson, the Grizzlies will start the regular season without guard Vince Williams Jr. (shin), guard Cam Spencer (ankle), forward GG Jackson (foot), and guard Luke Kennard (foot).

It is expected that a healthy Memphis squad will be a contender in the Western Conference playoffs. The Grizzlies are projected to have 44.4 wins and a 69.3 percent chance of making the playoffs, making them the 11th-best NBA team according to ESPN.com.

With the ninth overall pick, the team selected big man Zach Edey, who is anticipated to contribute significantly in his debut campaign. Marcus Smart and Desmond Bane, both guards, are expected to be key members of Memphis.

Utah Jazz What To Watch:

Lauri Markkanen, a powerful forward, is a solid leader for the Jazz. The organization has stated that its youth movement is a top goal, despite the fact that the 27-year-old is surrounded by a number of veterans, including Utah rookie Patty Mills, John Collins, Jordan Clarkson, and Collin Sexton.

Keyonte George, Taylor Hendricks, Brice Sensabaugh, Cody Williams, Isaiah Collier, and Kyle Filipowski are the six Utah players under the age of 23.

Last season, Utah's defense was among the least effective in the NBA, giving up 120.5 points per game (tying for 28th place). Long-term success depends on improving on that end of the court, as opposing teams shot a league-high 39.5 percent from 3-point range.

The Jazz are on their third season of rebuilding after losing Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell in 2022 and are predicted by ESPN to win just 33 games with a 2.7 percent chance of qualifying for the playoffs. This offseason, they signed Markkanen to a five-year, $238 million agreement, securing him for the long run.
