Washington Wizards What To Watch:
In its two games, Washington Wizards has performed admirably in the first half but has struggled to keep up the momentum in the second.
Despite the bad start, there have been some positive moments.
In the first game, Jordan Poole scored 26 points against Boston. Against the Cavaliers, Bilal Coulibaly scored 23 points, a career-high. Sarr became the first rookie since Calvin Booth in 2000 to record multiple blocks in the team's opening two games.
However, Kyle Kuzma of Washington, who finished first on the team in scoring with 22.2 points the previous season, is having trouble. This season, he is shooting 28.1 percent (9-for-32) from the field, including 3-for-16 versus Cleveland. His 3-point shooting percentage is 0-for-9.
The average age of Poole, Coulibaly, Kuzma, Sarr, and Bub Carrington in the Wizards' opening night lineup is 22.72 years. Since the NBA started keeping track of starters in 1970, the team has had the youngest starting lineup on opening night, making it the youngest in the NBA. Carrington did not miss a game despite having a minor ankle sprain in the first game.
Atlanta Hawks What To Watch:
Zaccharie Risacher of Atlanta and Alex Sarr of Washington, the first two picks in the 2024 NBA draft, will face each other for the first time on Monday when the Hawks meet the Wizards.
On Sunday, Risacher, the top overall choice, made his debut. The first two games have been begun by Sarr, the second overall pick. Sarr averages 5.5 rebounds and 7.0 points per game.
Atlanta will play their first back-to-back match of the season after losing 128-104 to the Oklahoma City Thunder, who are undefeated, on Sunday.
After losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers 135-116 on Saturday and the Boston Celtics 122-102 in the season opening, Washington is still searching for its first victory of the year.
The clubs will encounter four times this season, starting with this one. On Wednesday, they will meet one more in Washington.
Atlanta has won the season series four times in a row after defeating the Wizards three of four last season. In the last 15 matchups, Atlanta has won 12 of them.
Trae Young of Atlanta, who averages 30.7 points per game, gave up 10 turnovers despite scoring 24 points and dishing out eight assists against the Thunder. Young's stretch of at least five-assist games reached 164, which is the third-longest in NBA history.
Risacher recorded a career-high 13 points and six rebounds on Sunday. His average is 2.3 rebounds and 8.3 points.
Both Bogdan Bogdanovic (right hamstring) and De'Andre Hunter (right knee irritation) missed Sunday's game for the Hawks.
