The Jazz started their preseason against the New Zealand Breakers on Friday before playing the Houston Rockets on Monday. Utah won the first game 116-87, and then the second 122-113. The Jazz will play a total of six preseason games, including Thursday’s encounter.

The Jazz started the 2023-24 season really strong but lost momentum along the way to a 12th-place finish in the West. They aren’t expected to be playoff contenders this year either.

Dallas has only participated in one preseason match thus far. The Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Mavericks 121-116 on Monday. Dallas' preseason schedule includes games against the LA Clippers and Milwaukee Bucks following their matchup with Utah. On October 24, the Mavs will play the San Antonio Spurs in the first game of the regular season.

Last season, the Mavericks advanced all the way to the NBA Finals. But they lost five games to a far superior Boston Celtics team. Dallas had open looks but struggled from the 3-point line. Klay Thompson was signed to a three-year contract in the offseason to fill that need. On Thursday, Mavs supporters should see Thompson for the first time.
