Portland Trail Blazers vs San Antonio SpursWhat To Watch:
When the San Antonio Spurs play the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday night, they hope that their home floor and an emphasis on the basics will help them generate some momentum and overcome a roster that is thin.
The Trail Blazers, fresh off a 118-100 victory over New Orleans on Monday, travel to the Alamo City for the opening game of a back-to-back road series. Dalano Banton scored all 20 of his points in the fourth quarter, and Anfernee Simons led Portland with 24 points. The Trail Blazers overcame a three-point deficit by outscoring New Orleans 39-18 in the last quarter.
After scoring 12 points in the last period of Saturday's loss to Phoenix, Banton put on a strong show on Monday.
In Monday's victory, Portland ended a two-game losing streak with 19 points and 13 rebounds from DeAndre Ayton, and 16 points from Jerami Grant and Toumani Camara. The game on Thursday will be the third in a four-game tour that concludes on Friday in Minnesota.
The Spurs begin a road-home back-to-back set after losing 127-100 in Houston on Wednesday. San Antonio has lost two games in a row.
With 15 points in 25 minutes, Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs, followed by Julian Champagnie with 13 and Chris Paul, Keldon Johnson, Malaki Branham, and Sandro Mamukelashvili with 10 points each. San Antonio shot 44.6 percent from the field and committed 19 turnovers, falling behind 63-38 at the half and never really trying to rally.
Gregg Popovich, the league's all-time winning coach, had a "serious health issue" on Saturday, meaning San Antonio will be without him for the fourth game. Popovich's return has no set schedule.

After fracturing his left thumb during Monday's loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, guard Jeremy Sochan will now be sidelined indefinitely. This week, he is scheduled to have surgery. On the Spurs' injury list, Sochan joins guards Tre Jones (right ankle sprain) and Devin Vassell (broken hand).
San Antonio will play nine of its next 11 games at Frost Bank Center until the end of November, including the first of a five-game homestead schedule.
