Golden 1 Center, Sacramento, CA
Portland Trail Blazers What To Watch:
When the teams play Monday night in the California capital, the Sacramento Kings want to enter the win column for the first time this season, one day after witnessing the Portland Trail Blazers do the accomplishment.
Before the Trail Blazers defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 125-103 at home on Sunday thanks to 28 points from Jerami Grant and 27 from Anfernee Simons, both clubs had a 0–2 start.
Two nights prior, at the same location, the Pelicans defeated the Trail Blazers 105-103.
Sacramento Kings What To Watch:
The Kings, who are still hurting from two close season-opening losses—117-115 at home against the Minnesota Timberwolves and 131-127 away against the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday—had Sunday off.
The Kings and Trail Blazers played each other on a fairly even playing field last season, despite being 25 games apart in the Western Conference standings. The Trail Blazers won 130-113 at home in December after Sacramento won 121-118 at home in November in overtime. At home in April, the Kings responded with a resounding victory of their own, 121-82.
In actuality, Trail Blazers guard Scoot Henderson was the most significant difference between the three encounters. In the home victory, he scored 17 points and dished out 11 assists, although he missed both defeats.
Henderson, who is only 20 years old, has performed admirably in Portland's opening three games of the season. Before producing a plus-20 plus/minus off the bench on Sunday with nine points, seven assists, and five rebounds, he had already done a little bit of everything: scoring 22 points in the season-opening defeat to Golden State and racking up 15 points, six assists, and three steals in the first New Orleans game.
The Kings, meanwhile, think they've performed offensively well enough to lead 2-0. However, the Lakers suffered two tough losses in three days when Anthony Davis made a game-winning 3-pointer with 37 seconds remaining on Saturday and De'Aaron Fox missed an 18-footer that would have given Sacramento a two-point lead with 27 seconds remaining in the Minnesota loss.
After seeing his side lead by as much as seven points despite the early lead, Kings coach Mike Brown found a silver lining in the Los Angeles defeat.
The Kings shot 51.1 percent in the Los Angeles defeat, with Domantas Sabonis making 10 of his 14 shots on his way to 29 points and DeMar DeRozan going 9 for 12 on his way to 23 points.
On the eve of his fourth career head-to-head matchup with his twin brother Kris of the Trail Blazers, Kevin Huerter and Keegan Murray both contributed 14 points.
