Game Info
Tuesday, October 29th, 2024 10:00 PM ET
Pelicans @ Warriors
Chase Center, San Francisco, CA
New Orleans Pelicans What To Watch:
In their first three games, the Pelicans have played according to the same plan. Additionally, they won back-to-back games, including one on Friday night in Portland, before losing 125-103 on Sunday in another NBA two-game, same-opponent sequence.
Dejounte Murray, a rookie guard, has been sidelined for the season since he broke his left hand against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday. Trey Murphy III, a forward, has also missed time due to a hamstring injury sustained during the preseason.
Williamson has contributed 30 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists in his two games since missing the season opening due to illness, while CJ McCollum (23.3 points per game) and Brandon Ingram (22.7 points per game) have helped the Pelicans despite their illnesses.
In 30.3 minutes over three games, second-year guard Jordan Hawkins has averaged 18.0 points and 6.3 rebounds, which is remarkably productive for New Orleans.
Hawkins, who was a member of UConn's 2023 championship squad, finished the previous season as a rookie with an average of just 7.8 points in 67 games (10 starts). But given what he witnessed throughout the preseason, veteran McCollum felt that larger things were coming.
New Orleans Pelicans What To Watch:
When Stephen Curry misses Tuesday's game between the Golden State Warriors and New Orleans Pelicans in San Francisco due to an ankle injury, the rivalry that started to pick up momentum last season will at least momentarily stop once more.
Since New Orleans selected the former Duke star as the first selection in the 2019 draft, Curry and Pelicans star Zion Williamson have only faced each other five times out of a potential 17.
Last season, the Pelicans won two of those games at Golden State after Curry scorched them for 42 points in a Warriors victory in New Orleans in October. In the road victories, Williamson scored 19 and 26 points.
Before Curry sustained a peroneal strain in his left ankle in the third quarter of Sunday's 112-104 home loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, the rivalry looked set for a fourth straight matchup.
In the fourth quarter, the Olympic star made a comeback, but he only played for a few seconds before permanently leaving the game.
Curry and teammate De'Anthony Melton, who hurt his lower back in the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss, will miss both games of a home back-to-back against the Pelicans.
Melton will be reassessed on Friday after undergoing an MRI as well.
Curry may be replaced in the starting lineup by Brandin Podziemski, who was selected to the NBA All-Rookie First Team the previous season.
After two landslide away victories, the Warriors lost for the first time this season without the NBA's 3-point king available for the majority of the last 15 minutes.
