Houston Rockets vs Oklahoma City Thunder What To Watch:

Jalen Williams occasionally goes unnoticed on an Oklahoma City Thunder squad that also included Chet Holmgren, who came in second in the Rookie of the Year vote, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who was the team's runner-up for Most Valuable Player the previous season.

However, following a rocky start, Williams is on a roll going into Friday's game against the visiting Houston Rockets.

Williams has averaged 26 points and seven rebounds while shooting almost 57 percent from the field in the past two games.

He just lost to Denver on Wednesday after scoring 29 points, pulling down 10 rebounds, and dishing out nine assists.

During the first six games of the season, Williams' field goal percentage fell below 43 percent.

An increase in 3-point tries is partly to blame for those shooting difficulties. Williams made it a goal to increase his outside shooting in the offseason after averaging only 3.1 3-point attempts per game throughout his first two seasons.

After winning their first seven games by a margin of at least 12 points, the Thunder are coming off a 124-122 loss to Denver on Wednesday.

The Thunder will play their first of six home games this season on Friday.

The Rockets, who defeated San Antonio 127-100 at home on Wednesday, have won four of their last five games and back-to-back games.

The Rockets, who are hoping to make another leap after finishing.500 last season after three straight seasons much below.500, will likely use Friday's matchup as an early yardstick.

However, Houston is not exaggerating the game beyond what is necessary at this point.

As they work to get better and maybe achieve their first postseason spot since 2019–20, the Rockets are advocating for patience.

Two of the best defenses in the league play in the game.

In terms of defensive rating, or points allowed per 100 possessions, the Thunder lead the NBA by a significant margin.

Oklahoma City was more than seven points ahead of No. 2 Golden State going into Thursday's games, sitting at 96.5.

At 108.0, the Rockets came in fourth.
