Minnesota Timberwolves What To Watch:
On Sunday, October 13, Karl-Anthony Towns will play his old team, the Minnesota Timberwolves, at Madison Square Garden. One of the biggest deals that occurred right before the league's Media Day began was Towns to the Knicks. The big man now plays for a Knicks team that is on fire and earned headlines for some wise offseason decisions that placed them in the running for the championship.
Towns will be the center of attention when he plays against the team that selected him in the 2015 NBA Draft and the team he spent all nine seasons with. Even though New York aims to support their third victory, the center will have a very emotional evening.
For his new squad, the big had a pretty uneventful debut. In their first game of the preseason against the Charlotte Hornets, he scored ten points. When they faced the Washington Wizards in their second preseason game, he did comparatively better. Despite finishing with 25 points, the four-time NBA All-Star struggled to get out of his slump, shooting 7–20 from the field, 1–7 from beyond the arc, and 10–11 from the free throw line.
The expectations for both of these teams are so high that, should both teams continue to be as good as they appear on paper, a preseason game may hint at an NBA Finals showdown. Additionally, that is if they are able to defeat some of the top teams in both leagues.
New York Knicks What To Watch:
New York is no longer a lottery team. They have made some incredible moves, such as shipping Mikal Bridges a number of first-round picks. OG Anunoby received $212.5 million over five years. Jalen Brunson was acquired for an astounding $156.5 million, and to top it all off, a franchise player was traded for a new one.
Towns settling in nicely and making NY a real five-out bazooka is the best-case scenario for this squad. They can easily surpass 50 victories and match the Celtics' versatility thanks to Brunson and Bridges' unrestricted scoring, KAT's offensive prowess, and Anunoby's defense.
