LA Clippers What To Watch:
When the Los Angeles Clippers face the Golden State Warriors in San Francisco on Sunday night, two teams that were in good spirits when they arrived in town around eighteen hours apart will square off.
The Clippers defeated the Phoenix Suns 109-104 on Saturday afternoon after overcoming the Denver Nuggets on the road with a late comeback after losing to them in overtime at home.
The Warriors had just defeated the Utah Jazz 127-86 to finish up an incredible two-game, season-opening trip.
Last season, the Clippers lost the season series three out of four, but a lot has changed since then.
Kawhi Leonard suffered a season-opening knee injury, while Los Angeles lost Paul George to free agency. However, James Harden's play has been a major factor in the Clippers' two-game losing streak.
In Wednesday's Intuit Dome grand opening, Harden scored 29 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in a 116-113 overtime loss to the Suns. Then, he finished with four late free throws to cap a 23-point, 16-assist performance that helped seal the victory on the road in Denver.
After a 17-point performance in the season opener, Norman Powell scored 37 points against the Nuggets, including seven 3-pointers.
In the Clippers' victories over the Warriors the previous season, Harden scored 21, 28, and 26 points. Both Leonard and George missed one of the wins.
Even though the Clippers are greatly outscored on 3-pointers, they have managed to play competitively. Their opponents have accumulated a 27-point lead, and they have only made 20 of 62 shots from outside the arc.
Golden State Warriors What To Watch:
In their first game, a 140-104 thumping of the Portland Trail Blazers, the Golden State Warriors made 20 3-pointers. They matched that total in Friday's cakewalk against Utah. They have outscored their opponents by 69 points from beyond the arc and are 40 for 98.
Buddy Hield, who was brought in during the offseason to help cover for Klay Thompson, one of the best 3-point shooters of all time, has been the hottest hand.
By making 12 3-pointers and scoring 49 points, Hield has brought back the Thompson heyday and set franchise records for the most points in the first two games of a season.
The Warriors became the first team in NBA history to start a season with two wins of at least 35 points after their 36- and 41-point triumphs. They achieved this by putting up 13 double-figure scoring efforts, including six against the Jazz and seven against the Trail Blazers.
Backup center Kevon Looney cautioned, "And don't forget about the Golden State defense."
