Indiana Pacers What To Watch:

The season opening between the Indiana Pacers and Detroit Pistons is scheduled for Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at 7:00 PM ET. BSDET and BSIN will broadcast the game.

The Pacers were 5.5 points ahead of the Pistons as they took the court. The game had a 234.5 point total.

Last season, the Indiana Pacers had a remarkable run to the Eastern Conference Finals after winning 47 games in the regular season. The Pacers didn't lose any starters or important backups during the offseason, and they will play their season opener against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night.

However, oddsmakers and wagerers don't think the Pacers can repeat that feat. According to the betting lines, the Pacers have a lower chance than defending champion Boston, Philadelphia, New York, Milwaukee, Cleveland, and Miami of making it to the NBA Finals.

The Pacers, who led the league in scoring at 123.3 points per game, will remain a fast-paced, high-scoring team. After being acquired from Toronto, power forward Pascal Siakam averaged a team-high 21.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. In June, he signed a four-year maximum contract.

The offensive display is led by two-time All-Star Tyrese Haliburton (20.1 points, league-high 10.9 assists), while the defense is anchored by center Myles Turner (17.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.9 blocks).

Detroit Pistons What To Watch:

Head coach Monty Williams and general manager Troy Weaver were let go. After Williams was sacked by the Cavaliers, J.B. Bickerstaff was selected to succeed him, and former New Orleans executive Trajan Langdon was appointed president of basketball operations.

In addition, Langdon added some veterans to the roster to balance out the youthful core group. Most notably, after starting for Philadelphia for the previous five and a half seasons, Tobias Harris signed a two-year contract as a free agent.

Harris, who will start at power forward, finished the previous season with an average of 17.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists. Tim Hardaway Jr., who was obtained in a trade with Dallas, and Malik Beasley, another free agent signing, will vie for playing time at the wing positions.

The growth of Detroit's recent high draft picks will determine the team's long-term prosperity. This summer, Cade Cunningham, who is a franchise player, agreed to a maximum rookie-scale agreement.

Cunningham (22.7 points, 7.5 assists) should be more productive when surrounded by more seasoned players. Despite their struggles during Williams' one season, center Jalen Duren and fellow guard Jaden Ivey have shown more at ease this preseason.
