Houston was defeated 122-113 by the Utah Jazz in their opening preseason match. Alperen Sengun finished with 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Jalen Green scored 21 points in just 20 minutes. After coming off the bench, Cam Whitmore scored 17 points and pulled down two rebounds.

Although they didn't make any significant offseason acquisitions or trades, the Houston Rockets did choose Reed Sheppard with the third overall pick. Before losing their last four games, the Rockets came dangerously close to qualifying for the NBA Play-In Tournament. With 19 and 17 points, respectively, off the bench, Ajay Mitchell and Dillon Jones put on a display.

Despite finishing as the top seed in the West, Oklahoma City Thunder was eliminated in the second round of the playoffs and made major squad changes. The Thunder signed free agent Isaiah Hartenstein and traded Josh Giddey for Alex Caruso. Given how well both players fit into OKC's roster, it's a solid haul for the team.
