Rockets @ Mavericks
American Airlines Center, Dallas, TX
Houston Rockets What To Watch:
After defeating the San Antonio Spurs, their other in-state foe, 106-101 on Monday, the Rockets will play Dallas.
In the win, guard Jalen Green scored a season-high 36 points and made seven 3-pointers. With an average of 28.8 points per game going into Wednesday, he was tied for seventh place in the NBA.
Green has continued where he left off last season after agreeing to a three-year, $106 million contract extension with Houston earlier this month. After February, he led a postseason run that ended in disappointment with averages of 24 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.1 assists.
The 22-year-old's understanding of how to take advantage of defenses has advanced significantly. Green's growth was demonstrated during his late-season surge the previous season, when he stopped recklessly attacking the rim out of impatience.
Green, who was selected by the Rockets with the second overall pick in 2021, has benefited from playing in the backcourt with seasoned point guard Fred VanVleet. However, a lot of that development is linked to Green realizing how to use his talents and how his skill set forms the basis of Houston's offensive goals.
Dallas Mavericks What To Watch:
In order to assist the Dallas Mavericks win a difficult, early-season back-to-back, guard Luka Doncic came in late on Tuesday and made a game-winning 3-pointer to seal a 120-114 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
On Thursday, the busy Mavericks will visit the Houston Rockets for their third game in four nights.
Dallas has demonstrated that it can succeed without Doncic being extraordinary from the first tip. Despite Doncic missing 17 of his 27 field-goal tries, the Mavericks defeated Minnesota. With 1:04 seconds remaining, he made his only 3-pointer of the eight he had attempted, a 33-footer.
Kyrie Irving, a fellow guard, carried the majority of Dallas' workload on Tuesday, especially in the third quarter, when he scored 16 of his team-high 35 points. Daniel Gafford contributed 14 points, and P.J. Washington scored 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
Doncic shot 15 for 49 (30.6 percent) from the field in the back-to-back games against the Timberwolves and the Utah Jazz. During that time, he also missed 15 of 17 attempts from behind the arc.
However, the Mavericks' timely defense and offensive depth allowed them to win both games, which should worry the rest of the NBA.
