Delta Center, Salt Lake City, UT
Golden State Warriors What To Watch:
On Friday night in Salt Lake City, the Golden State Warriors aim to build on their record-breaking opening performance as they defeat the Utah Jazz on the road for the second straight season opener.
The Warriors crushed the Portland Trail Blazers 139-104 on Wednesday night, setting franchise records for points in a road opener and victory margin in any season premiere.
In addition to Kyle Anderson, Lindy Waters III, and De'Anthony Melton, who scored a combined 20 points, the game featured spectacular Golden State debuts for Buddy Hield, whose 22 points off the bench were the second-most in franchise history by a Warrior.
As Stephen Curry celebrated his franchise-record 16th opening night as a Warrior, seven Golden State players scored in double figures and six made at least two 3-pointers.
Andrew Wiggins, a Golden State veteran whose 20 points fell two points short of Hield's team-high total, later said that his squad is different this season in more ways than simply a few new players.
The Warriors will play the Jazz, a team they whitewashed 4-0 in the previous season series. Golden State has defeated Utah five times in a row.
Utah Jazz What To Watch:
The Jazz lost their first game at home on Wednesday, 126-124, after battling Memphis to the end. With 2:48 left, the game was knotted at 116 until the visitors finally claimed the lead.
Lauri Markkanen led Utah with 35 points in the first defeat. He is reportedly one of Golden State's top targets in an effort to restructure its squad in the offseason.
Following the game, Jazz coach Will Hardy took some time to commend Taylor Hendricks (12 points, 3-for-5 on 3-pointers) and Walker Kessler (16 points, 14 rebounds) for their strong season debuts for a rebuilding team.
The Jazz's perimeter defense will undoubtedly be one source of concern. Utah will next take on Golden State, who went 20-for-48 (41.7 percent) in their first game against Portland, after witnessing the Grizzlies shoot 17 3-pointers at a 37.8 percent clip.
The Warriors' long-range assault was spearheaded by Andrew Wiggins (4-for-7) and Buddy Hield (5-for-7). In just 25 minutes, Curry scored 17 points and nearly triple-doubled with 10 assists and 9 rebounds, hitting three of seven from beyond the arc.
