Golden State Warriors What To Watch:

In their most recent game, the Golden State Warriors made up for the lack of offensive firepower by playing tough defense while star player Stephen Curry was out with an ankle injury.

Golden State swept the teams' back-to-back sets on Thursday, defeating the New Orleans Pelicans 104-89. When the Warriors start a five-game road trip on Saturday against the Houston Rockets, they will hope for another outstanding defensive performance.

Curry had a left peroneal strain during Golden State's Sunday loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, which kept him out of both games against New Orleans. In their first game without the two-time MVP, the Warriors trailed by 20 points on Tuesday before coming back to win 124-106.

The following evening, Golden State gave up their second-lowest number of points in a game this season while holding the Pelicans to 36.7 percent shooting.

Draymond Green, who had five blocked shots in a game for the first time in three years, was the defensive fulcrum. Against All-Star Zion Williamson, who had a career-worst 25 percent shooting percentage (5 for 20), four of those blocks were made.

However, Green wasn't the only one who gave the Warriors a tough defensive stance.

Kyle Anderson, a fellow forward, was also praised by Golden State coach Steve Kerr, who noted how his ability to analyze games affects the Warriors' defensive script. Golden State has a lot of defensive versatility thanks to the combination of Green and Anderson, which makes managing Curry's absence simpler.

Houston Rockets What To Watch:

With their 108-102 road victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday, the Rockets passed an early-season test that Houston might have fumbled away last season.

Late in the third quarter, the visitors jumped out to a 23-point lead and clung on for dear life. By the end of the third quarter, Dallas had cut the lead by seven points, and for the first five or more minutes of the fourth quarter, the Rockets only made one field goal. However, Houston stabilized itself in time to win after the Mavericks got within 100-97.

The Rockets' pivotal player once more was guard Jalen Green, who ended the early fourth-period drought by scoring twice on audacious dribbles to the hoop. After that, Green made a 3-pointer in the closing seconds to put Houston ahead 103-97. However, the Mavericks were finally shut down for good by turnaround jumpers from Amen Thompson and Dillon Brooks.

Four other Rockets players scored in double digits, including Jalen Green (23 points, 12 rebounds) and Alperen Sengun (17 points, 12 rebounds), who both earned double-doubles. This performance is encouraging for the team's future since it was the kind of teamwork that Houston occasionally lacked last season.
