Dallas Mavericks What To Watch:
Monday is the LA Clippers' first preseason game in the $2 billion Intuit Dome, home of the Dallas Mavericks. LA is playing its fourth exhibition game of five, and Dallas is scheduled to play its third game of four preseason games.
Prior to the 2024–25 NBA season, the Clippers and Mavericks are both coping with significant injuries. Superstar forward Kawhi Leonard, who is still recovering from an offseason right knee surgery, is still not in the Los Angeles lineup. It is said that the frequently injured two-time NBA champion has not yet taken part in five-on-five scrimmages.
A left calf issue has kept Luka Doncic out of action to start the preseason. The five-time All-Star is scheduled to sit out the game against LA even though he reportedly took part in a non-contact practice on Saturday. He is supposedly not in danger of missing any regular-season games, though.
The Mavericks are predicted to be among the top contenders in the Western Conference this season, despite their 0-2 preseason record. After making it to the NBA Finals in 2024, the team strengthened its squad in the offseason by adding star player Kyrie Irving and forward Doncic. Among them is the signing of seasoned marksman Klay Thompson in free agency.
Los Angeles Clippers What To Watch:
Doncic and Leonard are both out, so LA and Dallas are about evenly matched going into Monday's matchup. Both teams have youthful prospects and seasoned role players surrounding their star guards, Harden and Irving. Additionally, both teams have so far benefited from well-rounded preseason output.
The Clippers have encircled Harden with veteran big Derrick Jones Jr. for defense and wing Terance Mann for supplementary scoring. Ivica Zubac, a center, is filling in as a nightly double-double threat. However, the team is depending on youthful players like Jordan Miller and Kevin Porter Jr. for bench contributions because wing Norman Powell's (back) availability is questionable.
In the previous game, the Mavericks used Irving in addition to Thompson's shooting and veteran guard Spencer Dinwiddie's playmaking. Dereck Lively II, a sophomore center, protected the rim and pulled down rebounds.
Dallas, on the other hand, lacks depth at the forward positions; power forward P.J. Washington (hip) is still playing every day. In order to give young players like sophomore forward Olivier-Maxence Prosper more playing time, the squad seems to be experimenting with its rotation.
