Dallas Mavericks vs Golden State Warriors What To Watch:

One of the season's most anticipated games will kick off the NBA Cup on Tuesday night when Klay Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks travel back to San Francisco to play his old friends, the Golden State Warriors.

After a 13-year career that included two seasons missed due to Achilles and knee problems, the 34-year-old Thompson, a 2011 first-round choice by the Warriors, decided to leave Golden State in a sign-and-trade over the summer.

After averaging 17.9 points per game for the Warriors the previous season, the four-time champion and five-time All-Star is scoring 13.8 points per game in his first ten games with the Mavericks.

At the time of his departure, Thompson was second only to Stephen Curry on Golden State's all-time list of 3-pointers (2,481), fourth in games (793), sixth in points (15,531), and ninth in steals (676).

The Mavericks and Warriors are in the same five-team pool as the Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Pelicans, and Denver Nuggets for the second edition of the NBA Cup, an in-season competition.

By pointing to his excitement for the NBA Cup, where he and the Warriors finished 2-2 the previous season, Thompson tried to minimize his homecoming.

In a six-team trade that included the acquisition of Buddy Hield from the Philadelphia 76ers, among other players, Thompson left the Warriors.

Hield, who ranks among the NBA leaders in 3-point field goal percentage (48.8) and 3-pointers (40), has more than made up for Thompson's absence. For the Mavericks, Thompson has made 29 treys at a rate of 35.4%.

There are no resentments about Thompson's departure, according to Warriors coach Steve Kerr.

In addition to a pregame video tribute, the Warriors intend to welcome Thompson with an interactive "Salute Captain Klay" experience. When his playing days are done, the Warriors have declared that his number 31 will be retired.

Curry is in favor of celebrating his "Splash Brother" as soon as possible.

The Warriors enter a four-day stretch with an 8-2 record after a 4-1 trip that included victories over the Boston Celtics and Oklahoma City Thunder. On Friday, they will host Memphis in an NBA Cup game.

The Mavericks lost 122-120 at Denver on Sunday to begin a three-game trip, despite Kyrie Irving scoring 43 points. Luka Doncic finished with nine rebounds, nine assists, and twenty-four points.
