Chicago Bulls What To Watch:

Chicago finished the regular season with a 39–43 record and failed to go past the play-in tournament the previous year. In a three-team trade in July, the Bulls acquired guard Chris Duarte from Sacramento in exchange for top scorer DeMar DeRozan. Chicago made that transaction after sending guard Josh Giddey to Oklahoma City in exchange for guard Alex Caruso.

The Bulls grew younger during this time, and head coach Billy Donovan has coached them to play at a faster pace.

Donovan said, "As fast as we're trying to play, we're going to need to probably have a rotation of about 10," in an interview with Chicago's 670 The Score. "I've had a rotation nine generally, but for us, I think we're going to have to go to 10."

Neither Zachary LaVine nor Ingram will necessarily end the season with Chicago or New Orleans, respectively.

New Orleans Pelicans What To Watch:

During the offseason, the Chicago Bulls were willing to trade Zach LaVine, and the New Orleans Pelicans were willing to trade Brandon Ingram.

However, neither team was able to secure a good enough offer for its previous All-Star players.

Therefore, LaVine will still be a Bull and Ingram will still be a Pelican when these teams play each other in the season opening on Wednesday night in New Orleans.

In return for four players, none of whom were starters, New Orleans received guard Dejounte Murray from Atlanta. Murray was supposed to return late Tuesday, but he missed the start of the week due to a family situation.

After moving Jonas Valanciunas to Washington, New Orleans is unclear at center, but they are thrilled to team Murray with Ingram and forward Zion Williamson. First-round pick Yves Missi, European rookie Karlo Matkovic, and journeyman Daniel Theis will alternate at center. Additionally, the Pelicans might occasionally play without a typical center.

"We're working toward being a team that goes out every night and competes at a high level, bringing energy and effort, a team that's disciplined and a team that goes out and plays with joy and has fun doing it," Willie Green, our head coach, said. "I think those are the ingredients that allow you to have some success."

Despite winning 49 games the previous season, the Pelicans lost to Phoenix in a tiebreaker for the sixth spot in the Western Conference. Although Ingram played with injury and Williamson was injured, they were swept by Oklahoma City after making it out of the play-in tournament.

Dallas last year and the Lakers two years ago were the only teams to finish one game ahead of New Orleans and make it to the Western Conference finals.
