Boston Celtics What To Watch:

Boston, the reigning NBA champion, defeated the visiting New York Knicks 132-109 on Tuesday to start the season. In the victory, the Celtics made 29 3-pointers, tying an NBA record.

With 8:54 remaining, Al Horford made his 29th 3-pointer, but Boston missed its next 13 3-point attempts to end the game. When Boston played the Miami Heat in 2020, they tied the record set by the Milwaukee Bucks.

Jayson Tatum scored a game-high 37 points and nailed eight 3-pointers. Additionally, Derrick White (six), Brown (five), Jrue Holiday (four), Horford (three), and Sam Hauser (two) all made many 3-pointers for Boston. The other three-pointer was made by Payton Pritchard.

Washington Wizards What To Watch:

Since 1979, when the team last made it to the NBA Finals, Washington has not won 50 games in a season.

The Washington Wizards play the Boston Celtics at home on Thursday night to begin the 2024–25 season.

The Wizards are still rebuilding after finishing with the lowest record in team history, 15-67, in the previous season.

First-round draft selections Alex Sarr (No. 2), Carlton "Bub" Carrington (No. 14), and Kyshawn George (No. 24) are among Washington's summer additions. The Wizards also signed Saddiq Bey, a veteran who is projected to miss a significant portion of the season due to an ACL tear, former Celtics guard Malcolm Brogdon, and veteran Jonas Valanciunas.

Brogdon's damaged thumb tendon will also keep him out of Thursday's game.

It is anticipated that Jordan Poole, who joined the Wizards for the second season after being acquired from Golden State, will play more point guard this year. Following Brian Keefe's appointment as the team's head coach in January of last year, Poole's responsibilities as a ball handler were expanded.
